Christian Education

Education is a large part of Christian growth. Zion offers educational opportunities for both young and old. Kiddie Kampus Cooperative Pre-School is a big part of every day. There are kindergarten readiness classes for 3 and 4 year olds.

Confirmation

Confirmation is the process by which a young person becomes a full adult member of the congregation. Studies at Zion normally begin in the fall of a student’s 6th grade year and continue on most Wednesday evenings during the school year through their 8th grade year. Confirmation students work together with our pastoral staff and their Confirmation mentors in large- and small-group formats.

Confirmation students are expected to worship regularly throughout their time of study, participate in a share of the worship services as an acolyte or other assistant, and attend a Confirmation retreat in addition to their Wednesday evening classes.

Confirmation meets Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Grades 6, 7 and 8  are welcome to attend.
For more information, contact Gail Jones at dougwaynejones@aol.com or phone 459-4957

Incidentally, if adults are interested in confirmation instruction for the first time or as a "refresher course" they can contact Pastor Mike for more information.

Sunday School

Using a Bible-based curriculum, Zion offers age-appropriate faith instruction to preschoolers through 6th grades during the school year. We believe that Zion is unique in the number of men and Senior High youth that are leaders for our Sunday School.

Sunday School begins at 9am each Sunday morning in the regular worship service with singing time and then communion (or a blessing) with their parents before heading off to classes.

Bible Study

Every Thursday morning at 9:30 am we meet for one hour for bible study. We begin with the appointed texts for the following Sunday worship. And we often will go from there to whatever text or topic interests those who attend.

Mom's Bible Study

Every Wednesday at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. The topic is "BalancedLiving" (a Focus on the Family resource). It is led by Mary Ellen Steinkraus. All moms are welcome to drop in for any session.

First Communion Class

A couple of times a year, Zion offers children an opportunity to learn about the Lord’s Supper. It is a three- or four-session activity-centered workshop for parents (or grandparents or baptismal sponsors) and children that includes the mixing and baking of the Communion bread in the final session. Parents are as involved as the children in the learning activities.

Via de Cristo & Teens Encounter Christ

Via de Cristo and Teens Encounter Christ are highly structured three-day weekends designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people and bring them to a new awareness of living in God's grace. It is a combined effort of lay people and clergy from parishes across the ELCA and LCMS, and a number of other individual churches toward renewal of the church. Many people from Zion participate in Via de Cristo and TEC weekends.
